Milagro Foundation: Deborah & Carlos Santana's Charity
The statistics of the neglect, homelessness, abandonment, and other kinds of emotional and physical abuse of children in the U.S.A., is staggering. And that is in one of the wealthiest nations of the world.
In third world countries, especially, these numbers are even larger. In some cultures, children are even treated as a commodity, to be bought and sold at their parents' or others' whims. But the harm to children need not be that purposeful: just lack of the proper necessities of life which many of us take for granted can be devastating.
It was to improve the situation of children all over the world that Carlos Santana, and his then wife, Deborah Santana, created the Milagro foundation.
About the Milagro Foundation
"Milagro" is Spanish for "miracle," and to the kids the foundation helps, their works are nothing short of miraculous. It is the mission of the Milagro Foundation to raise money and donate the proceeds to other non-profit organizations that aid children worldwide.
To that end, besides their board of directors, the Milagro Foundation consists of a small staff, part of whose duties are to identify worthy organizations to which to give money. Established in 1998, the Milagro Foundation has donated more than $3,000,000 to established charities such as UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, Save the Children, and many, many others.
In their own words, "The foundation makes grants to organizations that work with children and youth, especially those at risk and disadvantaged due to such factors as poor health, illiteracy, or insufficient educational and cultural opportunities."
Donating to Milagro
Money for the Santana's Milagro Foundation is raised through concert ticket sales, Santana licensee revenues, and donations from generous individuals and corporations. Click here to donate to the Milagro Foundation.
Thanks to the Santanas, a number of young people are better off now than they might have been without the Milagro Foundation. That's worth supporting. By the way, one of the ways to support the Milagro Foundation is to buy products from Santana's shoe line: Carlos by Carlos.
